JuanCamilo Sanchez is a Colombian Drummer, composer and band leader who lives in New York.

After living for 21 Years in Colombia and immersing in the rich pacific musical heritage he moved to New York. He now lives in Brooklyn and often performs with musical projects of various genres.

Bio

Drummer Juan Camilo Sánchez was born in Bogota Colombia. From an early age he developed a close relationship with music and was heavily influenced by the strong musical and percussive culture of his country.

Drummer Juan Camilo Sánchez was born in Bogota Colombia. From an early age he developed a close relationship with music and was heavily influenced by the strong musical and percussive culture of his country. In 2013 he attended the Universidad Javeriana Jazz Performance program, where he collaborated with some of the best musicians in colombia and south america like Guillermo klein, Samuel Torres and Antonio Arnedo. He also spent time investigating and absorbing the complex heritage of Colombian music, particularly the complex percussion information from the pacific coast instruments and rhythms .

 

Seeking to expand his Jazz education he moved to New York after being accepted to the Sunny Purchase music conservatory. During his time in New York Juan had the opportunity to study with some of the best Drum teachers in the world like Kenny Washington, John Riley and Richie Morales.

 

He has performed in many important festivals like “Jazz Al Parque” 2013, “The Monterey Jazz Festival” 2016 and “The Mid-Atlantic Jazz Festival” 2016. Juan is featured in more than 5 published recordings, including works with some mayor Jazz musicians like Gilad Hekselman and Nitai Hershkovits.In 2017 Juan Camilo moved to Brooklyn where he continues to work in his music and also collaborating with different artist of other disciplines. Currently he is promoting his debut album Eccentric / Concentric, an exploration in musical colors and textures.​
